Candle burning hints and techniques

It’s super important to remember to trim the wicks on any candle. They will burn better, and you will reduce the soot levels.

Never allow any candle to burn down to the bottom of the glass! I retire a candle when there is about 1/3 of an inch of wax left.

A good rule of thumb is that you should burn your candle a minimum of hours as your jar is in inches across. In other words, for a 3 inch across candle, you should burn it for at least 3 hours. You shouldn’t go beyond 5 hours, though. Candles can become too hot!

Always remove any paper tags from the jar.

Less important, but a good thing to know, is that your candle will look better if you do not blow out the flame. Either snuff the flame or dip the burning wick into the wax, drowning it, and then straighten it up.  Even soy candle jars can turn darker from the soot of a blown-out wick.

And, most importantly, pay attention to the warning label!
